The Middle East and North Africa region has been historically and contemporarily shaped by large and continuous displacement movements driven by political, economic, climatic, and humanitarian crises.

Despite significant humanitarian and aid efforts, independent and unified regional representation for refugees remains absent, and meaningful refugee participation in shaping policies affecting their lives remains limited.

The MENA Refugee Network was established to address this gap by creating a collective, independent framework for refugee-led organisations to amplify their voices and support their participation in designing their own futures.

Objectives

  • Representation: Strengthening refugee presence in dialogues, platforms, and decision-making spaces that influence their rights and future.
  • Advocacy & Legal Support: Raising awareness, amplifying voices and realities, supporting rights-based initiatives, and improving legal conditions for refugees in the region.
  • Empowerment: Supporting refugees to meaningfully participate by providing access to knowledge, skills, and a fair understanding of systems and opportunities.
  • Coordination: Connecting organisations and initiatives working with refugees to encourage collaboration, avoid duplication, and strengthen unified action.
  • Sustainable Solutions: Exploring and supporting pathways toward dignity, stability, and long-term well-being, whether in current host countries or future contexts.

Values & Principles

  • Independence: Decisions are made freely and autonomously to ensure refugee voices remain central.
  • Transparency: We share information openly and honestly, building trust through clear communication.
  • Participation: Refugees should be active contributors in all conversations and decisions affecting their lives.
  • Equality & Non-Discrimination: We welcome all without exception and ensure equal rights and access.
  • Accountability: We honour commitments, uphold responsibilities, and remain accountable to our members and communities.
